>> Simon | Frédérik Steenbrink Frédérik Steenbrink is a songwriter and a performer. Intrigued by Jacques Brel and the French repertoire, he moved to Paris after his first year at The Amsterdam National School of Performing Arts. He continued his studies in music and theatre at The National Theatre School of Chaillot and The Jazz Conservatory, Le CIM. In New York he attended the Master Class Performance for Singers at The New School University. He worked with Le Théâtre de l'Unité and was chosen by director Abbès Zahmani to star in Inaccessibles amours by playwright Paul Emond. Frédérik has created his own shows, recorded and produced two albums, performed at the Théâtre du Tourtour and the Sentier des Halles, and toured in France, Belgium, and Holland. He worked with director Jérôme Savary in the musical Irma, la douce, and in Belgium he starred as Wallace Hartley in the European premiere of Maury Yeston's Titanic, the Musical. Frédérik founded La Compagnie Comme Si, and partially produces his own material and that of others like December Songs (Isabelle Georges), Mata Hari (Gaëtane Bouchez), and Chapeau (Herman van Veen). He recently starred as Arnaud Laurent in Chopin, Chanson de Daniël, a new play written and directed by Herman van Veen and opening in Paris next season. He has opened for actress Annie Girardot and performer Annie Cordy in major theatres such as L'Olympia and Le Casino de Paris, and is currently preparing to record a new album. Recently, he featured alongside Charlotte Rampling and Jean Rochefort in Désaccord Parfait, a French/British film directed by Antoine de Caunes. Together with Isabelle Georges he created Judy and Me, for which he composed the tribute song La Voix de mes rêves. After its success at the prestigious Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2005, Judy and Me has been presented at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in Australia in June 2007. Steenbrink's piano-playing is warm and his voice delicious. |
